The MeG team build upon an extensive track record in delivery of highly successful research-oriented IT projects across a variety of disciplines. Wherever possible we build directly upon the results of these projects from a software perspective, but more importantly from a software engineering perspective to support the development and rollout of software solutions. We summarise the current portfolio of projects here and some of the previously completed projects involving the MeG staff to give an idea of the depth and breadth of research-oriented IT that we build upon. Many of these projects are for University of Melbourne researchers. This is made possible through an internal grant scheme funded through the Melbourne Collaborative Research Infrastructure Program (MCRIP) program to support a research software-oriented platform: Platform for Research Software Systems (PRESS). Where funding allows, the MeG team work across and support PRESS projects.
Ageing Analytics
Ageing Analytics provides a web application for searching and analysis of data and metadata related to ageing.
Genetic Algorithms
Genetic Algorithms focused on development of bespoke machine learning algorithms used for educating students in the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology. These were delivered through an enhanced Excel spreadsheet.
Canvas visualisations
Canvas visualisations involved a set of visualisations of how students use the learning management system (Canvas) at the University of Melbourne. The project involved collaborators in the School of Computing and Information Systems.
Teamwork Chat Analytics
Teamwork Chat Analytics realised a web application for researchers in the Melbourne Graduate School of Education to explore how teams collaborate. This includes diverse visualisations showing teams evolving coordination and collaboration over time.
CrossRef
CrossRef involved the creation of a database comprising all meta-data returned for every article included in over 1400 journals identified by researchers in the School of Psychology.
Panel App
Panel App focused on the deployment of the Genomic England to support the curation of gene lists by multiple users with the intent of unifying disease-associated gene lists among national sequencing initiatives. The project involved a collaboration with the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre.
Leadershift
Leadershift provides a web application with a visualisation dashboard that can be used for assessing leadership capabilities of individuals together with development plans to help them become more effective leaders. The app was developed in collaboration with the Faculty of Business and Economics at The University of Melbourne.
Motivational modelling
Motivational modelling focuses on how agent-oriented software engineering can be used to present project goals to clients at an abstract level to facilitate communication between clients and software engineering/development teams. The web application is used for teaching software engineering at the University of Melbourne.
Living Instruments
Living Instruments was developed in collaboration with the Percy Grainger museum. It focuses on transforming historically rare and unique instruments into interactive and playable virtual instruments.
Ethics Games
Ethics Games focused on development of a web application exploring ethical scenarios through game-based approaches. This was used in the context of teaching ethics and artificial intelligence in the School of Computing and Information Systems at The University of Melbourne.
